A more useful question

GLP-1–based medications have demonstrated benefits for some people with obesity or related health conditions. They are also prescription drugs with meaningful contraindications, adverse effects, and monitoring considerations. Whether a medication is appropriate is a clinical decision.

Safety considerations in the FDA labeling

Current semaglutide labeling includes warnings or precautions for pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, gastrointestinal reactions, dehydration-related kidney injury, and certain other risks. Its boxed warning describes thyroid C-cell tumors observed in rodents, with uncertain relevance to humans. Those details deserve attention without implying that everyone taking a GLP-1 medication will experience them.

What food still matters for

Whether someone uses medication or not, sustainable meals, adequate nourishment, practical cooking skills, and ongoing support can matter. A nutrition coach who is not a licensed medical professional should not recommend starting, stopping, or changing prescription treatment.
